The first performance in costume, and it was a crazy Valentine's Day for all of us. This was in 2001.

Wunderspaze, event curated by Khai Hori at The Singapore Art Museum in 2004, featuring Sabrina Annarhar (Moods).

On our first Baybeats outing in 2003, everyone looked so young with slick haircut and Esplanade was the venue to perform at.

Doing the Dewa jangle, at Flipside Festival in 2004, opening for Zircon Govnt Pawn Starz. We had helluva time, with guest drummer Hardy Aryono (By Definition/Wicked Aura).

I am not sure if anyone ever read this blog anymore, but hell yeah, we are still alive, we are not as active as we used to, perhaps we are busy with our own lives, solo projects, side projects, making ends meet and all kinds of emotional turmoil that we are facing. The greatest enemy is time. The most divine question ever is album...album..where is the album...we have decided, we are not going to talk about the album anymore.

But we are back on stage again this time round for The Substation's anniversary this month.

There will even be a yoga class just before sunset, right on top of the Fort Canning Tunnel so bring yor yoga mat!

Yes, the Old LaSalle will be gone soon, and we have been invited to perform for one last time at the amphitheatre, for the good of evil, for memory sake we will do this one for Lasalle nevertheless. Plain Sunset, the band that pretty much inspired us when we first came to Lasalle and Psycho Sonique. Let's have a good time.

The first gig Tiramisu played was at the amphitheatre in '98 (damn, it has been 9 years), and we performed on a Freshmen night, some of us were not really sober, but we had so much fun that night.

We are currently working with Cake Theatre for The National Museum official opening this weekend, in this really super hilarious production with a stellar cast of performers with guest appearence by Kumar is a must watch. We have been working together with composer Philip Tan for the live music part. Yes, its expensive, but its worth it lah. Apart from that we will be hitting Home Club Again for the third time this year as part of BEAT LIVE! on the 15th of December.

as Bangsawan. This original play will tell stories from the past with a generous dash of humour from the present.
A young handsome king meets a beautiful mysterious young woman. They instantly fall in love. However, she agrees to
marry him only if he asks no questions – about her history. After much merry-making, they have a child. When he is
pressed by ‘society’, he has no choice but to question her. Snap. Double snap. And she’s gone.
Divine Soap presents the story of a Bangsawan, as it was told in the past. It also sheds light on the trials and tribulations
faced by these troupes as they struggle to hang on to their traditions while keeping with the times.
With a buffet of elaborate costumes, ‘special efx’, painted 2-D backdrops, stock comic characters, dance, music and fight
sequences, there’s plenty to savour and delight in.

Our inspiration....

Hello all, hope you are feeling swanky, the World Cup is coming to an end, Italy will win definitely, to beat your cold turkey, you should come and watch us at Baybeats next Friday. As you know, we are still warming up to this new line-up, and the past couple of gigs were helpful enough to make us realised that we are not that old but we love rock n roll.

About the recording, we are on our way, yes we know, we have been cheating your feelings, but we are getting it there somewhere. So we are not going to tell you when, where or what is the process of this mysterious album going to be like. But we hope that you can be patient. The truth is we can't wait either... in the meantime, chill...

Hello all, yes, I know, we have been guilty of missing in action, we appeared in BBC's Destination Music a few weeks back. We are all gearing up for Baybeats 06 nevertheless. I shall not blabber too much nonsense here, people might find it offensive neither would I talk about the album, if the album is out, we will tell ya.

The Mosaic Festival was a blast the fact that we did not play that many rock and roll numbers as we were told to do so, we played Kinks, a bit of Beatles here and there. We made new friends and as usual, the Esplanade crew have always been kind to our late soundchecks, but we managed to rock it.

Like a lot of the infamous band stories in the world, Tiramisu has a long history of formation and reformation. The line-up has been changing since we started out, Tiramisu is more or a less a healthy social club. The funny thing is that we are still at it, igniting new flame from the ashes of disappointment or whatsoever.

After so many years, we are still struggling to make things happened, like the much anticipated album that we have been trying to work on for the past couple of years.
Having to go through a whole epic proportion/magna opus of all complexities with narcotics, alcoholism, lost equipments, missing drummers, politics of love, idiosyncratic female back-up singer and failed relationships.

The line-up has been configured, dabbled, abused and displaced again, we have officially semi-employed Zahir Sanosi from I am David Sparkle to join us beating the skins of desire. Of course, the last line-up that graced the stage at Bar None last month. Our poor Mr Syed Ahmad who was roped in earlier this year as a drummer will now be taking over the guitar bits.

It’s a new strange animal we are talking about here. Not sure of what this is going to lead us, but sure somewhere.

We are not going to look back, nostalgia are not worthwhile sometimes, some of the songs you have heard may not sound the same this time round but for sure, we will definitely try our best to keep on creating music that we enjoy most.

Our next ritual will be at Zouk Out on December 10th, hope you will be there to join your hands and shake your woogie boogie.

The gig last Monday night was great, we had loads of fun on stage definitely. We didn't really expect a great turnout despite the rain. We would like to thank Willy from Aging Youth for inviting us to this infamous Monday Session.

Our third outing in 2 years, it has been great, pretty awesome sound system and a great dressing room with purple dumb Bells. As Jeremy was on his way back to Singapore from Venice, Syed Ahmad had to re-learn the complicated riffs that Jeremy had created in the songs, while Zahir Sanosi from I Am David Sparkle was roped in for primal back beats.

This is the weird formation ever: so we were TiraSparkleRevival

We have not played Alistik for a long time and Song for A Retard has actually morphed into multiplied versions actually. Dancing Queenc came our pretty alright with Adik giving it a bastardised rhumba/boomshakalak beats, and Ahmad with his trademark pornwah twinkle. As for now, this would be our last gig for the year, till we get the album done, and I am pretty sure it will be next year. Let's pray hard together...

The Fluidity of a Space

I know..I know...I have been very lazy. I have to kick my own butt to write all these down.

Well, I should have written this so many weeks ago, for my Ibook went into a coma, yes I know its a lame excuse. Nevertheless, I have to rely on my girlfriend's laptop to write this review or such of the Fluid gig organised by Stick and Run collective.

The decision to play in this gig was partly because of the fees, though its not that big, its enough to cover 3 hours of recording. It has always been that way, if only our parents own Tiger Balm Gardens, it would have been easier.

We were greeted with a rehearsal of 'street-clothing' fashion show by a local brand 'Revoltage'. with not so 'model-like' models who sauntered through the mini-catwalk with cold swagger. Fluid, the pub or Bistro, whatever they call it, as like many other pubs in Singapore do; they have the usual Television set screening some Rugby game with a pool of 'beef-steakers' caucasians/expats/foreign talents/tourists outside the pub gawking away with their $5 frankfurters and beer.

The soundcheck was pretty alright, the fact that the stage was compressed , and the quasi theatrical lightings were off-beat at some point I thought... but all was good.

The gig started at about 10-ish, the singer came out with an 80s new wave-esque-butterfly sleeved blouse with a long hippy wig and yellow framed shades. The Stevie Wonder turned rocker meets Spinal Tap look.

However, price of admission could have been a turn-off point I would say, for $16, I guess it is a little too steep for some people. Singapore being Singapore, people find their best way to have some fun and entertainment for free. So that is pretty normal, unless we are Primal Scream that is another story.

I believe we had some new audience (apparent from the squeeching teeny bopping screaming heard on the right side of the stage), that is a kind of a motivation or sort for us to play at unknown venues. Special thanks to Jonathan aka The Tick and Peishan who came to catch us, as the photos of the gig is in my Ibook who has died on me. Hello friends,

welcome back again, I have not been updating this site on a regular basis, yes, I know its me and my laziness. But nevertheless, we are back again and this time round (I hope) we will bring you the goods of harmonic laboured fruits.

We are all hoping we could finish the album by March next year, the album was put in a halt due to the crazy schedules of some of the members in their other artistic projects. This album is becoming like the new Guns n Roses album, 7 years in the making and nothing to be seen.

It is not that we are not interested in the album, but like they say, we are all humans afterall. Taking our time is part of our guilty pleasures. But of course, it is not possible to take as long as 1000 years, partly because by the time we hit our 40s we will perhaps loose the rock n roll bone in us.

Anyway, we will bring you some lovin' this Saturday down at Fluid, (I don't know where it is, but somewhere near Peking St, Far East Square), together with other joyful acts like Aloe in the bottle from KL and Castro who will be spinning some Drum and Bass.

I know the covers are the killer....so do come if you have that extra buckaroos. Yes, its the end of the month, the drought season and all we poor souls. But this is definitely going to be one of our last 2 appearences for this year. Till we come out with some interesting ideas, we will try or lets put it this way. WE HAVE TO MAKE IT HAPPEN, FOOL!

The vivid sketches of the 10th June gig at Rouge:

4pm: Soundcheck? What soundcheck? The crew were still setting up the gear, Keith, Lan and Jeremy doing some fondling on their instruments. Replacing strings, waxing, smoking, Ahmad bought some food from McDonald's. I heard some problems with the floor tom, the attachment was too loose from the side. Love Me Butch dudes cam, shook hands, said hello...talked about KL music scene. Kevin was telling me how difficult to get venues in KL except for Paul's Place which is like so far off, in Damansara I think.

5:30pm: Dhany the organizer drove to the Goldmine studio, borrowed a floor tom, at the same time Ahmad took a cymbal and a nice looking drum seat with a moulded butt shape. In the car, we talked about the music scene, Dhany said something about B Quartet is the best he has ever seen for now, yeah, Mike Patton I like too, Ahmad was pretty tired of the scene but still wanting to contribute some sort and I was having a great time at the back of the car belonging to the Love Me Butch guys.

6:45pm: After LMB soundcheck, we took over the stage, the sound was great, with the monstrous sub-woofers in front of the stage which acted as an elevated platform for all singers alike. We did Spoon, Take Over The World and Afloat. Asked for our vocals to be pushed up a little. The name of the sound company was D Entertainment, they had a huge banner near the stage, that's advertising boys and girls.

7:00pm: After soundcheck we went our seperate ways, I went to hang out with Ahmad at Goldmine. The rest...I dont know. Had dinner at the unknown Sarabat Stall at Bussorah St. Chilled at Goldmine till about 10-ish. We couldn't get cabs, and me and Ahmad were late.

11:00pm We came at the right time, the guys were setting up, and I changed to my neo 80s garb with Ramones wig. And lost it in between set. There were a lot of action...there were some hissing here and there....romp a pomp pomp.

We had only a large bottle of mineral water, well, as usual it became a communal drink. Like Young men in a war. The audince were pretty alright, I saw some hands going up and down. Joe Ng was smiling with arms to his chest, his bootlegging habit is back.

After 11pm: Loads of head banging action and falling into a pit of arm-pits, and crazy pearl licking moments, some free drinks from the management. A happy night and we sold all our VCDS. All 8 of them.

The Get Together Session for Butching Me Love

We finally got together, and carried on with some old tunes and the newer/fresher ones for Friday's gig, two sessions all in all. Remembering all the songs over and over again. Definitely, we are tired of playing the same old numbers, normally what we do is that we reconstruct/deconstruct/shorten/expand/trash the songs, so when we play them, they do feel fresh somehow.

As for now, we have to agree upon that I seldom update anything here, so might as well I do some historical analysis of the songs we have played based on last night's session.

The session last night started out with 'Take Over The World', Jeremy wrote this song for an experimental performance we did under KYTV 3 years ago at the Substation, Sabrina and Syed Ahmad from Moods were in it. She sang only the chorus...that was pretty soothing. In the beginning, I was reluctant at first, because I thought my voice couldn't carry certain high pitches and the melody was pretty weird. But after a while, I got used to it completely, and this song remained one of the powerful number.

Frankly, from my personal interpretation of this song, its about power-trip/mind-fucked/exploiters/greedy bastards, I assumed Jeremy wrote this when he was in the army. A combination of a fluke bossa, hard rockin riff with sing-along-chorus.

The next song I would like to talk about in brief is Mr Fantesticles, the song LocalBar Boys covered, this song was written in a strangest way, it was Jeremy who got this 'jeering' riff, like those neh-neh-neh-neh type of sound, and The Strokes just came out with their first album, we had this small studio in a factory called The Pete. So everything was a bit Punk Rock...here and there...

At the same time, we were just figuring out how can we transpose a jeering feel into a song? So I had this visual idea of people who love to suck up on other people. Well, the man was my Sergeant Major in the army, who was a fanatic balls carrier..."Hey Dancing friend wait for me...I'll be there....", the imagery I had was a man in uniform dancing and inviting another friend to join him in his dance....

About the chorus:

"Its in your mouth...your Testicles...your Testicles...!"
Another word play from a crude-street-style Malay Text : ' Hisap Buah', which means to suck on a fruit literally. Fruits, a strong metaphor for testicles. Crude, rude and rocking! Stupid but efficient!

The ending to this song is a sing-along-ditty, it goes "Boplay! Boplay! Boplay! Boplay! Boplay", The real meaning is actually Buah Pelir in Malay, I am not sure if this is scientific or another beautiful invention by the street pioneers. Yet again, from my observation, when you sing along to this, no matter how much work you have done in your life, its a celebration of hardship....the fruit of labour of being alive....Boplay! Boplay! can also be interprete as balls to you!

So National Service can also be the birth to many of our songs, more analysis coming this way! Sorry if I have gone astray in this writing but I am a really bad writer....can't deny that...

As for now, we have just recorded the drum tracks for 3 songs: 'Justin', 'Spoon' and 'Take Over The World'. Everything is pretty swanky, up and pumping.

Another latest news would be our next gig in Kuala Lumpur, opening for Love Me Butch, 10th June 2005, Venue to be confirmed.

Syed Ahmad will be banging away in Madrid with Wicked Aura for the WOMADrid Festival, from 18th - 28th May 2005. Hopefully he will come back with loads of matador lovin'.

I spent the evening last night at Snakeweed, we are finally doing it in
the studios, and really excited about the process, we managed to get
the drum and bass tracks done last night for Take Over The World.
Special thanks to Salleh from Wicked Aura who came to orchestrate
Ahmad's timing for his drums. It is like taking Oral Examination with
audience. No cover ups, everything can be heard, clear and sharp.

Latest Updates and lots of nonsense

Hello beep boppers,

we have been very busy,(me especially), haven't been updating this blog. The RNDM gig was fine actually, the space was conducive enough to contain our irregular madness. We played songs from the past and the present, the aeroplane seats by the side helped to enhance the audience to a flightful experience.

Apart from that, we will be recording 'Mr Fantesticles' and 'Take Over The World' next week at Leonard's, we are taking our time, not to rush on these, for we just don't want to screw this up. The gig at RNDM was sort of the last for now, we have to tighten up our butts and get this album done or we will get old soon.

We are not sure whether we are planning to write number one hit songs, but we are waiting to see if the music can hit us first. Pretty much so we are not so concern with becoming poster boys either, for we like to use 'Sakura' poster colours when we were in school.

Altogether, we are all a bunch of merry-making men who love to mess around with rhythm and sound. We have really bad marketing strategies and our plans for the future is close to nothingness. We get inspired from seeing people trying to out-do people, but we do have strategies to cleanse your ears. All we need is an agent, an agent that could modify our lives.

The London Story

London was good, it was pretty alright, I wouldn't say I'm too happy with it, but it was quite an experience, playing in a place such as the ICA. And life is pretty good, the rest of the boys are still there, extended their stay, while I have some work to do here in Singapore, so myself, Jeremy and the exhausted Rudy, are back in Singapore already.
Its funny, some people don't even know where Singapore is exactly, to some, Singapore is just a word/place, somewhere in East Asia. But there were some nice people, here and there, curious about us and of course, Peishan and entourage, Candice and crew, Neelesh with his Force Vomit tee and friends. The Canadian lady who danced by the side. But I think we are still in a dream, we are back here in Singapore, with the heat, gossip & the realness of being Asian, in an Asian band. A south east asian band.

The rest of the boys arrived last night, and straight away they had to make a way to the ICA to do the soundcheck. The worst thing happened, they did not get the message, as they left the airport with a driver waiting for them. So everyone spent about £14 each on the train to town, how miserable. The soundcheck was infused with jetlagged and, for a while I thought we sounded like Echo and The Bunnymen.
All in good spirit, we even had a family pack salted chicken from KFC last night, and we had our winter gear on, but all we could go was the KFC opposite the hotel and bought a take-away. It was snowing slightly last night.
We met Peishan last night as she came to witness the great jet-lagged soundcheck, so we will try to rock it hard tonight, and give lotsa love to everyone tonight...

Hello peepsy daisies and poopsie dozos,
yes, now, the time is near, the last minute packing and shopping for the necessary necessities like cup noodles, mints, batteries, biscuits and other important ration. The important accessories like up johns?, the long johns, beanie and gloves. We are not going there as MUSE or Radiohead, so there won’t be any hospitality as such, we need to find our way to the hotel ourselves, it is somewhere near Hyde Park, off Kensington and Chelsea. There’s no reason to complain, They are putting us up in a 4 star hotel, ‘The Millenium Gloucester’, what can we say, we have to be indie.

Lan has been spending sleepless nights, burning the CDRs, while I have been running up and down the hill at Fort Canning (home of Theatreworks), settling some last minute logistics, flight tickets and the very last session at Bob’s.

As my body belongs to both KYTV/Tiramisu, (how wonderful if I have tentacles), I have to think of myself as David Copperfield, the magician. (yes I know very 80s)

There were many days as we thought, this day was like a dream, when suddenly it came slapping, how we realised the difference between reality and fantasy. But sometimes we get stuck in between or just floating around. I had a conversation with Lan the other day, he said the night before he played in KL, he couldn’t sleep, he felt this huge responsibility playing in front of a foreign audience. I understood what he meant, let’s just hope this trip will be a fruitful and mind-altering journey for all of us, you, me, us and everyone who have witnessed us on stage, as friends, foes and laughed together. We will bring each and everyone of you with us, in our hearts, our minds and our souls.

I will try my best in finding free or cheap internet access, so that we can update you with the situations, complications, joy, grief and experience, not forgetting the weather report. Those of you who are or will be in London this week, grab as many Singaporeans, businessmen, steward/stewardess, technopreneur, doctors, students, social escorts, pimpsters, drivers, maniacs anyone, And you Singaporeans who are in London, grab as many Korean, Japanese, Jamaican, Spanish, French, German, Icelandic, Zimbabwean and any different nationality of friends, come to the show at ICA.

We had a discussion with Leonard Soosay last Thursday, so in April, we are really, really hitting the studios for real this time, no more procrastination and no more hesitation. Syed Ahmad will assist us as a producer/drummer, like Butch Vig. As for now, we are hoping to finish the album by June. But that’s not possible, as we are all working at odd hours and shapes.

This March 19th, we have a gig organised by Rock Star Collective, Ahmad will be away with Wicked Aura in Kuala Lumpur. Any interested party, please do e-mail me at manicjango@hotmail.com

Weather report from Tworks production manager, its about 0-6 degrees, snowing a little, hopefully, we will not get hungry there, as from what I’ve heard a sandwich salmon costs about 3 pounds ($9). Welcome to Europe, boys and girls.

Tonight will be our last session, we will be playing the repertoire of songs, 14 altogether, most of these songs will be in the future album. Most of you may have heard of them, some may not.

We are bringing Serenaide, Force Vomit and Wallwork records Cds to sell at the ICA bookshop. A little help to spread some ‘singa’ tunes to the folks in London. The KYTV team (which I’m in it as well) will be leaving on the 23rd Feb morning, while the Tiramisu pack is off the next morning.

So technically, KYTV will be arriving in London on the 23rd Feb around 15:30 hrs. In Which we will be having a production meeting at 18:00 hrs. So it will be a major jet-lagged madness, altogether 16 hrs flight. This does not include anxiety, technical complication, culture shock, adaptability and weather/time difference. Peace.

The session at Garage Studios was productive and creative, with a fairly large dimly lit room and a be-spectacled longhaired owner dude who looks like an Indie Boy back in the 90s.
